Michigan GREEN is a non-profit group consisting of energy companies together with energy consultants, government agencies, schools, colleges, universities and likeminded individuals that have joined forces to champion the cause of renewable energy and energy efficiency in Michigan and throughout the Nation. Michigan GREEN utilizes the efforts of gifted scientists, engineers and professors with a focus on educating our youth off of the current dependency on oil. Engineering and scientific research projects help to implement actual wind, solar, hydrogen, geothermal and energy storage devices for existing energy inefficiencies.
Michigan GREEN grew out of an energy program that began in 2002 when the M-TECSM at Bay College was awarded a grant from the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to establish a revolving loan pilot program for energy efficiency projects. After receiving three grants (totaling $2.95 million) and completing forty-eight energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, the M-TEC at Bay College ended their pilot program, the Northern Lights Energy Program (NLEP).
Michigan GREEN represents a natural evolution of the NLEP, with several of the original members joining with many new members to expand the capacity of this network to implement projects on a much larger scale. The member consultants and contractors in Michigan GREEN have hundreds of years of combined experience in evaluating, designing, engineering and implementing renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. Michigan GREEN recently arranged $45-million in funding to finance projects that could be sustained and paid for with the energy savings achieved.
