MTI Energy Management - Lighting Specialists

MTI Energy Management / Lighting Specialists, Inc is a full-service energy management company that provides professional lighting and energy conservation products and services, such as financing, performance contracting (savings-based) and long-term maintenance contracts to ensure the integrity of system upgrades.  Formed in 1990, MTI is one of the first fifty Energy Services Companies in the United States.

MTI testified before the State of Michigan Senate Sub Committee on Energy in regard to finding ways to make lighting upgrades and energy savings easier and more accessible for organizations and individuals to implement.

MTI has managed hundreds of lighting and construction projects totaling more than $65-million.  Custom designed lighting systems encompass several million square feet and have helped a wide range of businesses and organizations reduce energy consumption in the Midwest.  The energy savings translate into huge economic savings.  The project for the State of Michigan Capitol Complex Buildings alone helped save Michigan over $4,000,000 in energy costs over a 10 year period.  The City of Dearborn saved over $600,000 in energy costs and the Michigan State Police Posts benefited over $500,000.

MTI is a registered agent of McKenzie Bay International, Ltd. - Windstor Power Company, which is an urban, wind energy generation, storage and distribution system.

MTI is a distributor for Uni-Solar (United Solar Ovonic) the world’s leader in thin film solar technologies and the manufacture of thin film solar electric modules and laminates offering the most cost-effective and reliable solution for supplementing energy needs from solar electricity.

MTI is also a distributor for COBASYS, bringing advanced quality nickel metal hydride (NiMH)
battery solutions into widespread commercial production for transportation and stationary applications.
The COBASYS patent portfolio contains the fundamental patents for NiMH technology. In all, more than 65 US and 280 international patents for advanced battery technologies are held.

MTI is a working partner with Rebuild Michigan, a government agency which provides access to resources and technical assistance to develop a comprehensive action plan for energy efficiency while targeting cost savings, improved building quality and environmental protection.

MTI represents US Architectural and Sun Valley Lighting, manufacturers of US Light poles. US Arch and Sun Valley operate their own foundry and they are the only companies that manufacture light poles in the United States.

In response to a request from the State of Michigan Sub Senate Committee on Energy that MTI help with a residential energy program, MTI initiated the ecommerce business, WattBusters.com.  The idea was to deliver energy-efficient products to the customers’ door.  WattBusters offers compact fluorescent bulbs, LED lights, faucet aerators, showerheads and other water-saving devices along with pre-packaged energy kits.

MTI supports fundraiser programs and has built affiliations with numerous Michigan radio personalities to help promote awareness and educate the public on effective ways to save energy in their homes.  MTI has donated more than $100,000 in the form of energy kits for the 2006 and 2007 WWJ-Winter Survival Radiothon programs for THAW (The Heat and Warmth Fund).  The donations helped to raise additional money for people who can’t currently pay their utility bills.

MTI has worked extensively with municipalities, schools, businesses and individuals in Michigan to bring about viable energy savings normally not available to rural areas and was instrumental in the MPSC Low-Income Energy Efficiency Fund (LIEEF) grant program which delivered over 7,150 energy saving kits to rural residents in 61 Michigan counties. Savings over 5 years will exceed more than $3.5 million.
